Acne is a skin condition where the pores are blocked. Bacteria cause the pores to increase reddening the area. It will create bumps or even pimples. Your whole skin tends to get red and there will be pimples anywhere on your face. The small holes in your skin connect with the oil glands. Acne happens to about 80 to 95% of women. Further, it happens during puberty and sometimes during periods. Various types of acne are:

  1. Pus pilled bumps
  2. Clogged pumps
  3. Whiteheads
  4. Cysts, etc.

What are some causes of acne?

There are so many factors that can cause acne. It can cause mild to severe acne. Some of the common causes are:

  1. Secretion of excessive sebum or any natural oil
  2. Hormonal imbalance
  3. Blockages due to inflammation, etc.

Poor nutrition doesn’t create acne and it’s best if you use acne-control products on your face. With acne, if there is inadequate cleaning, it will worsen the situation. Having an adequate diet can help solve minor acne problems. High-stress levels can cause acne and this is seen quite frequently. Increased stress, increases the cortisol levels in your body. This in turn causes breakouts along with other health concerns.

Acne is also caused if you have too much-fried food. These are not good for your body and even for your skin. Skim dairy products can also cause acne.

Underlying causes of acne

Hormonal changes

With increased hormonal changes, the oil glands seem to change their production too. With altered body functions, acne tends to glare up on your skin.



Acne is related to genetics too. If your parents suffered from too much acne, chances are that you will suffer too. Genetics can cause similar problems that you might not be aware of. Your body reverts to acne every time you face something.


Use of medications

If you use certain prescribed medications, it can cause acne as a side effect. With just short-term treatment, it might come back too. If you are using the medications for the long term, there might not be a cure for the acne.

How severe can acne be?

Acne is not just a cosmetic condition it can be worse than you imagine. It can cause some internal issues, chronic pain, etc. Some acne causes scars too. It will leave harmful pimples on your skin and these don’t go away fast.

With severe acne problems, your skin will become damaged. The pimples will start oozing out or they will even pop. Many people are tempted to pop their whiteheads. This in turn will leave scars or red spots. Most cystic acne can cause keloid scarring. These are discolored bumps and look like coins. These appear on the person’s hands, back, and chest everywhere.

When should you see a doctor in case of acne?

  1. If your acne is getting worse with time, it’s time to see a doctor.
  2. You have tried remedies but it is just not working on your skin.
  3. Acne is impacting your life a great deal. If your acne is becoming more with time, you must consult with a doctor.

Some doctors and physicians can provide you with the right treatments. These professionals are experts in their jobs. If your condition is not improving go for a dermatologist.

Natural ways of removing acne from your skin


Lemon has a certain natural bleaching agent which is very good for your skin. It has microbial properties in it. Lemon helps in reducing pimples on your face. You can apply lemon directly to your face. Also, raw honey along with lemon can work wonders. Honey helps in reducing pimples and you must give it a try.


Vitamin E oil and Tea tree oil

Apply just 2 to 3 drops of Vitamin E oil directly to your skin. You can mix it with coconut oil and apply it daily to your skin. Tea tree oil has anti-inflammatory properties in it. It helps to reduce the building of bacteria around the acne spots.



Turmeric is even known to have anti-microbial properties very effective on the skin. The build-up of bacteria around the pores, it can cause huge pimples to occur. Mix turmeric with rose water and make a paste. Apply it on the face and wash it off after about 30 minutes.


Drink lots of water if you want to get rid of acne-prone skin. With the right skincare regime, you can prevent acne breakouts on your skin.
